Kara's legal practice focuses on complex civil litigation in federal and state courts.  She has experience in product liability and professional liability, in particular medical malpractice defense.

A representative sample of Kara's experience defending professional liability claims in the health care sector includes the following:

  • Represented a California hospital and its nurses against allegations of medical malpractice. The plaintiff was a seriously brain-damaged man with a multimillion-dollar future life care plan.
  • Represented an orthopedic surgeon in Colorado in a case in which a plaintiff with a diseased cervical spinal cord claimed a screw placed in his cervical spinal canal caused him to have neurological deficits following surgery. A Denver District Court jury delivered a defense verdict in favor of the surgeon.
  • Represented a physical therapist in a matter involving allegations of negligent treatment resulting in paraplegia.
  • Represented a hospital in a wrongful death action alleging a medication error.
  • Represented a hospital in a medical malpractice action regarding nurse's alleged failure to assess and treat a post-operative condition.
  • Represented a pediatric emergency medicine physician in an action alleging failure to diagnose. Resulted in dismissal.
  • Represented a mental health facility in a negligent failure to warn case. Resulted in dismissal.
  • Represented a social worker in a failure to warn and treat action. Resulted in dismissal.
  • Represented a hospital in operative malpractice action alleging failure to warn and negligent privileging and credentialing case. Resulted in dismissal.
  • Represented a hospital in an alleged operative negligence case.
  • Represented two chiropractors in separate cases, each involving negligence allegations.
  • Represented a California hospital in a wrongful death action involving alleged medication error.
