Joel's legal practice focuses on complex civil litigation including the defense of consumer class actions, business and shareholder disputes, medical malpractice and tort cases, as well as corporate internal investigations and compliance matters. Since joining Wheeler Trigg O'Donnell, Joel has:

  • Defended one of the world's largest appliance manufacturers in multiple consumer class action lawsuits;
  • Won arbitration involving shareholder dispute for a Colorado Springs corporation including award of attorneys' fees for corporation;
  • Won arbitration involving corporate governance issues for a research and development company;
  • Served as second-chair in bench trial in Washington State in a lawsuit brought against corporation and individual involving allegations related to an alleged traumatic brain injury and secured favorable judgment in an admitted liability case;
  • Served as second-chair in several arbitrations for one of the world's largest automobile manufacturers following the passage of Section 747 of the Consolidated Appropriations Act of 2010;
  • Helped secure complete defense verdict in multimillion-dollar medical malpractice lawsuit;
  • Secured $4.2 million judgment for corporate client in a civil theft case involving employee theft;
  • Successfully defended corporate clients in connection with temporary restraining order and preliminary injunction proceedings;
  • Acted as the lead or secondary attorney on various commercial and tort disputes, including breach of contract actions, breach of fiduciary duty actions, fraud actions, personal injury, wrongful death, and medical malpractice actions; and
  • Taken lead role in several internal investigations and counseled clients on a variety of federal and state compliance issues.
