Early in his career, Kai Thompson has had the opportunity to work on a range of complex matters, including defending companies in wage and hour class actions, working on ERISA matters involving claims against third-party plan administrators, and representing plaintiffs in commercial disputes, including in the energy sector.
Before entering law school, Kai worked for the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency where he managed a laboratory of over 300 scientists committed to developing alternative testing methods to evaluate toxics. During law school, he worked for The University of Chicago Law School’s Abrams Environmental Clinic, where he managed several cases under the Endangered Species Act, winning protection for the Kirtland’s snake.
Kai also was a community economic development volunteer for the Peace Corps. While working in a rural village in Peru, he worked alongside Peru’s National Park Service and a Quechua-hablante community to develop the community’s businesses with a focus on environmental sustainability.
