John Vaught Appointed to Board of Trustees of St. Mary's University

Wheeler Trigg O’Donnell (WTO) partner and St. Mary’s University School of Law alumnus John Vaught has been selected to the Board of Trustees of St. Mary’s University in San Antonio, Texas. Mr. Vaught will serve a two-year term on the St. Mary's Board beginning July 1, 2016. In 2013, Mr. Vaught delivered the commencement address to the graduating class of St. Mary’s University School of Law.

Founded in 1852, St. Mary’s University is the oldest institute of higher education in San Antonio. The Catholic and Marianist institution is also the oldest Catholic university in the Southwest. 

"It is a great honor and privilege to be invited to serve on the Board and give back to the University. I look forward to serving the St. Mary's community throughout my term," said Mr. Vaught.  

Mr. Vaught earned his J.D., summa cum laude, from St. Mary’s in 1978 and served as a law clerk in the United States Court of Appeals for the Tenth Circuit. He served as a litigation partner in two major law firms prior to joining WTO in December 2000. His trial practice is centered on complex commercial litigation, including class actions, antitrust litigation, and securities and fraud issues. Mr. Vaught has particular experience representing insurance companies against bad faith and policy coverage claims. San Antonio-based USAA is one of his primary clients. 

A Navy veteran of the Vietnam War and former president of the Denver Bar Association and member of the Board of Governors of the Colorado Bar Association, Mr. Vaught brings significant leadership experience to the Board of Trustees. Mr. Vaught is listed in The Best Lawyers in America, Colorado Super Lawyers, and Benchmark Litigation, and he is A-V peer-review rated by Martindale Hubbell.
